there are many questions you may want to ask, hopefully most of them are answered below. If you need more information please contact us.
When do I need to book?
In a perfect world - You need to book in advance of your baby’s birth. We take a limited number of clients each week to ensure we have enough sessions for everyone (given many babies do not arrive on their due date!) We shoot newborns when they are 14 days old or less, ideally on days 5-14 to achieve those sleepy poseable images you may have seen. If your baby is already born call us asap, sometimes there is a bit of juggling with sessions and you may just be lucky! If your baby is more than 14 days old we can still do a session but again please call us asap and we will find a spot for you - we don't turn babies older than 2 weeks away!.
What is best time for a shoot?
Newborn sessions are generally scheduled for the morning. It is time of day works best for newborns and also morning is best when incorporating toddler siblings. We try and remain flexible for clients who live far away or who just cant face the idea of a morning session!
Where are the sessions held?
All sessions are held in the studio in Waverton, near North Sydney. There is free and easy parking available on site.
What should I bring with?
Bring spare bottles if being bottle feed, and a dummy (even if you don’t use one), also feel free to bring a snack for yourself, even watching a session is hungry work for a new mum!
What do I need to do to prepare?
Before your session, please feed baby 2-3 hours prior, and plan on feeding him/her as soon as you arrive. A full baby is a sleepy baby! When you dress baby before the sessison it is best if they have loose, easy to remove clothes, preferably nothing that has to be lifted over the head.
Newborn Frequently Asked Questions
What about clothes?
Newborns: As you know clothes don’t fit newborns very well so they are best photographed without clothes, we will add some hats / headbands etc. If doing family shots as well we recommend the following:
Dad: shirtless or plain shirt with a pair of jeans (no logos on shirt), plain tee shirt will work fine. If you have tattoos and want the baby photographed with them please let me know details (position, content etc)
Mum: Tanktop, teeshirt or loose blouse with comfy jeans or pants. Check your nails for chips or touch up color if you need to, since your hands will be in the photos and you want them to look timeless.
Siblings are very welcome at newborn sessions, I really love them! If you do want to include older children, keep outfits simple also, and plan for someone to take them home or away from the studio once we are through with them. We have a range of toddler outfits including tutus that can be used as well.
How long will it take?
Newborn sessions usually last about 2 hours, but can go up to 3 hours depending on if baby is fussy or siblings are uncooperative. Note the studio will be very warm, so come dressed for a warm few hours. There will be a while noise machine playing in the studio room also, it can make for a pair of very sleepy parents as well. You are welcome to bring a book / magazine or even have a quick nap!
Can we do family photos as well?
Absolutely! Whilst concentrating primarily on the new bub it is a great time to take a few family and sibling portraits as well. Mums often protest that they don't want any shots so soon after the birth but it is definitely worth doing a mum and baby or dad and baby portrait whilst you are here.
What if I need to cancel?
If your child is feeling ill, please call to reschedule. We understand that sometimes, this happens. If you must cancel, please try to do so at least 48 hours before your session. If you are more than 30 minutes late to a session with no communication with your photographer, the session will be assumed cancelled and your session fee will be forfeited.
When will my photos be ready?
Generally photos are ready for viewing in 4 - 14 days.
What types of prints and products do you offer?
I offer a wide variety of products and prints, I also have a range of professional suppliers so if you have something specific in mind let me know and I will try and source it for you.
